driver's license required Description: The Registered Nurse (RN)
plans and provides comprehensive nursing care. This includes
executing orders from Licensed Independent Providers, dispensing
and administering medications, and assisting in examinations and
treatments of patients. Nursing and supervisory techniques are
applied in the care, treatment, and referrals of inmates/residents.
The RN performs all technical and clinical procedures within the
scope of education and licensure. Appropriate nursing skills are
applied in the area and treatment of inmates/residents. Attendance
at sick calls with the physician is required to see
inmates/residents. The RN prepares a list of inmates/residents to
be examined and prepares the examining room and equipment.
Medication dispensing monitors and documentation is performed as
required by applicable policies and procedures. Communication with
Licensed Independent Providers for medication and treatment orders
is essential. The RN examines and assesses new inmates/residents
with illnesses or injuries. Referrals to emergency rooms or other
healthcare facilities are made as required by their condition.
Emergency procedures are performed as needed, and the Licensed
Independent Provider is notified for treatment orders. Coordination
of professional medical services provided by contract personnel is
required to address their needs. Monitoring of inpatient
hospitalizations for early releases is conducted whenever
appropriate. Guidance, supervision, and monitoring of nursing care
provided by licensed vocational/practical nursing staff and
non-licensed medical staff are required. A good working
relationship with facility staff, nursing staff, and outside
provider agencies is maintained. Established corporate and facility
policies are utilized in decision-making, while sound independent
judgment meets responsibilities and duties. Regular evaluation of
medical service provision is conducted to prevent inappropriate
usage or duplication of services. Absolute security and
confidentiality of all medical records are maintained. The RN
assists with the review of medical files to ensure all provided
services are documented. Monitoring of all potential catastrophic
illnesses is closely conducted. Auditing of pharmacy use for
adherence to formularies is performed as directed or required.
Compliance with all applicable pharmacy laws, especially those
covering controlled substances, is essential. Observation and
recording of inmate/resident behavior are required. Inspection of
the medical unit for contraband items is conducted, with secure
storage or safe disposal of supplies and equipment. Health
counseling and health education are provided on an individual or
group basis as required. The RN assists in preparing and
maintaining a variety of records, reports, and logs using
appropriate grammar. Reading, analyzing, comprehending, and
interpreting medical and technical procedures, governmental
regulations, and legal documents is necessary. Processing and
responding to lawsuits, including attendance at court hearings when
necessary, is required. Facilitation of required standards for
medical program accreditation is conducted. Preparation and
dissemination of safety and accident reports, along with
appropriate action in cases of serious incidents, are required.
