Description:
The Radiation Protection Specialist will perform duties, to
implement activities related to radiation protection (RP) programs
and facilities to control on-site personnel doses ALARA and limit
the public's exposure to radiation. Duties and
Responsibilities:Specific duties and responsibilities include, but
are not limited to:Design/Construction PhaseWork with the RP
Manager and Radiation Safety Officer to establish and implement
radiation protection department policies, programs, and procedures
as required for the Operations Phase.Propose process and design
changes that improve radiological safety.Assist in the development
of a Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Operating License
Application.Perform other duties as requested or
assigned.Operations PhasePerform radiation and contamination
surveys and decontamination work.Perform sampling and analysis of
gases, liquids, and solids.Analyze and interpret the results of
surveys and analyses and recommend appropriate radiation protection
controls and actions.Provide briefings and guidance to facility
personnel to prevent unplanned exposures and maintain exposures
ALARA.Maintain radiation detection instrumentation and other
associated equipment.Ensure radiological safety activities are in
compliance with federal and state standards and regulations.Perform
other duties as requested or assigned.
Requirements:
Associate's degree in health physics, relevant engineering
technology, or related physical science specialty; or High School
Diploma with ANSI RP technician qualifications and experience at a
nuclear power facility; or Navy Nuclear experience, including
Engineering Lab Technician (ELT) qualifications.Certified Health
Physics (CHP) or National Registry of Radiation Protection
Technologists (NRRPT) preferred.A minimum of two (2) years'
experience in applied radiation protection or related
field.Technical understanding of nuclear facility principles and
operation.Familiarity with federal regulatory requirements
regarding radiation protection.Strong PC skills to include
Microsoft software.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Eligibility for employment is conditioned on the applicant's
ability to qualify for access to information subject to U.S. Export
Controls. Additionally, applicant's eligibility may be conditioned
based upon meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements
for access to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a
pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background
