Description:SHINE Technologies is seeking a Radiation Protection
Supervisor to perform duties to implement activities related to
radiation protection (RP) programs and facilities to control
on-site personnel doses ALARA and limit the public's exposure to
radiation. Occasional shift work may be required in the performance
of this position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
At the Discretion of the SHINE Radiation Protection Manager, RP
Supervisor scope may include but is not limited to:Design Phase
- Work with the RP Manager and Radiation Safety Officer to
establish and implement radiation protection department policies,
programs, and procedures as required for the Operations Phase.
- Propose process and design changes that improve radiological
safety.
- Assist in the development of a Nuclear Regulatory Commission
(NRC) Operating License Application.Operations Phase
- Responsible for the daily supervision, monitoring, and coaching
of employees to ensure a productive work force in compliance with
company policies, procedures, and sound radiation protection
principles.
- Responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Radiation
Protection program to ensure that work is getting completed in a
timely manner and that worker exposure is being maintained
ALARA.
- Direct and mentor Radiation Protection Technicians in support
of operations activities.
- Mentor RP Technicians and Authorized Users in good Health
Physics practices
- Perform radiation and contamination surveys and decontamination
work.
- Perform sampling and analysis of gases, liquids, and
solids.
- Analyze and interpret the results of surveys and analyses and
recommend appropriate radiation protection controls and
actions.
- Provide briefings and guidance to facility personnel to prevent
unplanned exposures and maintain exposures ALARA.
- Maintain radiation detection instrumentation, and other
associated equipment.
- Ensure radiological safety activities are in compliance with
federal and state standards and regulations.
- May write Radiation Work Permits and Work Instructions
- Estimate and track individual and collective dose
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
Requirements:
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience in applied radiation
protection or related field.
- Associate degree in health physics, relevant engineering
technology, or related physical science specialty; or High School
Diploma with ANSI RP technician qualifications and experience at a
nuclear power facility; or Navy Nuclear experience. including
Engineering Lab Technician (ELT) qualifications. National Registry
of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT preferred)
- Supervisory or Radiation Safety Officer experience
preferred
- Bachelors degree in Health Physics, relevant engineering
technology, or related physical science specialty preferred
- Technical understanding of nuclear facility principles and
operation.
- Familiarity with federal regulatory requirements regarding
radiation protection.
- Strong PC skills to include Microsoft software.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Eligibility for
employment is conditioned on the applicant's ability to qualify for
access to information subject to U.S. Export Controls.
Additionally, applicant's eligibility may be conditioned based upon
meeting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission requirements for access
to Safeguards Information, which typically requires a
pre-employment drug screen, fingerprinting and criminal background
check.
