JOB SUMMARY We are seeking an Outreach Athletic Trainer. This position supports the athletic programs of local high schools. Evaluates physical condition and advises and treats athletes to maintain maximum physical fitness for participation in athletic competition by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs assessment of injury or condition and takes appropriate follow up steps to ensure safe and proper care. Prescribes routine, preventive, and corrective exercises to strengthen muscles, increase balance, and improve flexibility. Provides practice, game, and event coverage for assigned area. Responds to medical emergencies and provides assessment, stabilization, and first aid. Makes recommendations for athletic participation and return to sport guidelines. Completes accurate documentation of assessment and referrals. Recommends proper nutritional guidelines to athletes. Refers athletes to physician or for continued care per protocol. Applies bracing and taping to athletes; performs manual techniques to relieve symptoms and improve function. Treats chronic minor injuries and related disabilities to maintain athletes# performance. Collaborates with sports medicine providers, physicians, and other allied health professionals. May work in a clinic setting with physician or under the direction of a physical therapist. EDUCATION # EXPERIENCE Bachelor#s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE BOC certification Approved CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days State Licensure in Wisconsin, Illinois, or both if required, in process, application must be pending at start date Maintain a valid driver#s license and reliable transportation with proof of vehicle insurance when requested. Have and maintain an acceptable driving record per Mercy#s HR-01-Fleet Safety policy. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Passing the Driver#s License Check and/or Credit Check (for those positions requiring). Passing the WI Caregiver Background Check and/or IL Health Care Workers Background Check. Must be able to follow written/oral instructions. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of PHS, HBO, ChartView Database software; Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word Processing software. WORK ENVIRONMENT The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, and crouch; talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. LEVEL OF SUPERVISION Some independent judgment is required, but alternatives are limited by standard practices or procedures.This position is a replacement for coverage at two high schools (Evansville and Parkview). Mercyhealth has a contractual obligation to provide an athletic trainer for these schools. This position also helps us provide needed coverage at Mercyhealth Sportscore. Not replacing would be unfavorable with these high schools and communities as we have contracted with them for several years to provider their athletic training services.
